Trying to keep your development project going at Internet time and waterfall diagrams just aren't helping? Embrace change and give eXtreme Programming (XP) a try.
This book by Kent Beck explains what extreme programming is all about and if its right for you. After reading this book, you'll know if you should change your development strategies or avoid extreme programming altogether. Extreme programming definitely is not for everyone and this book does not try to force you to change to use it. It simply describes what it is and how to do it right.
The book explains the importance of testing, refactoring, and pair programming on XP. Not just for the programmer, but also for the manager, this book helps explore XP to avoid schedule slippage as well as overcome business changes and staff turnover. If you do choose to change, and nobody on the team is familiar with XP, you'll need this book as a blueprint to get you going, as some of the steps might sound a little out there if you are accustomed to long development cycles.
One thing the book tries to do is change ones opinion of how the cost of altering a piece of software rises with time. The purpose of XP practices is to reduce those costs.
